Alaska Housing Finance Corporation

HomeChoiceTM is a six-hour class offered by the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation. It is designed to inform interested homebuyers on important financial considerations when purchasing a house. There is no cost to participate.

Anyone can attend HomeChoice, regardless of whether or not the individual is a first-time homebuyer. Some of the topics that will be discussed include comparing lenders and real estate agents, understanding title insurance, options for energy-efficiency, the process of obtaining a home loan, sale and purchase contracts, the importance of home inspections, budgeting, and options for Alaska loans and down payment assistance.

The Alaska Housing Finance Corporation also offers on their website the HomeChoice Steps to Homeownership Workbook, for free and for anybody to use. This is the class material that will be covered in the course, but has useful information for anybody thinking about buying a home.

While HomeChoice is normally taught in-person, currently it is being held virtually in the form of a webinar due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please check their website to see if courses are still being offered online or in person.

In addition to HomeChoice, the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation also offers Finally Home!, which is an online course rather than an in-person class or online webinar. This class is useful if you cannot attend either the webinar or in-person class.
