Citibank was founded in 1812 in New York City, and it is currently Citigroup's consumer banking division. As of this writing, Citigroup/Citibank the 3rd largest bank in the United States, trailing only JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America with about $1.8 trillion in assets. Citi is one of the "Big Four" American banks along with Chase, BofA, and Wells Fargo. Citibank's reputation took a bit of a hit during 2008's financial crisis, but the bank has fully repaid its loans from the United States government and continues to be one of the leading banks in the world.

Citibank has an enormous presence in the United States and overseas. Within the US, Citi maintains over 1,000 branches and more than 65,000 ATMs, including ATMs located inside of participating 7-Elevens. Every branch offers 24-hour access to an ATM and free teller service during business hours. Truly a global bank, Citibank maintains a presence in over 160 countries, with 4,000 overseas branches. It seems fair to say that Citi is the bank of choice for the international traveler.

In terms of selection, you can find almost any financial product through Citibank. CitiMortgage, the bank's home loan division, offers mortgages, home equity loans, and home equity lines of credit. Citi is consistently one of the nations largest lenders, and in Q1 of 2013 it was the fourth largest home loan servicer. Citibank also has CDs and Savings accounts, along with credit cards, insurance, and various investment options.

Citibank is also well known for its leading online services division. The bank states that it has about 15 million active users between online banking and its various mobile applications. No matter where you are, you can manage your bank accounts, pay bills, and more online.

Many choose to work with Citibank and CitiMortgage due to convenience, selection, and the company's well known and trusted brands. However, there are reasons to consider banking with community lenders instead. Local banks tend to have a better connection to the local community, and you can sometimes get approved for a loan that a larger bank like Citi would simply not approve.

I was trying to find ways to help out with bills around the house. I finally came to the decision that I probably needed to go ahead and refinance our home. I wasn’t really sure though if this was the option I needed or not to help solve my issues but Citibank was really helpful.

This is one of the things I like most about Citi bank, is the alerts they send me that is regarding my account. Citi bank has competitive rates when it comes to their CDS; the interest depends on the amount you put into the CD along with how long you hold on to it.
